Whisky Tasting April 2015 – Across the Water

Glenlivet Nadurra  16y.o. (55%abv) – Scotland, Speyside

This cask strength non-chill filtered dram took a little while to get into while it mellowed in the glass. Sweet fruit notes like elderberry and toffee apple are tucked away in what is a rugged palate. No lingering in the throat but leaves a pleasant feeling. A gentle giant.

Score: 7.8

Connemara Peated No Age (40% abv) – Ireland

whiskyAcross the sea in Ireland, where triple distillation is typical, this one goes against the grain and is only twice distilled. With the use of peated malt this whisky is perhaps trying to be a little Scottish without quite making it. Still has the soft palate of an Irish whiskey and would make for a gentle introduction to peated whiskies. Subtle vanilla, burnt oil and peat notes.

Score: 5.8

Ardberg 10 y.o. (46%abv) – Islay

From a whisky lovers paradise, between Ireland and Scotland that has its own character. This is a classic, enjoyed here to celebrate its 200th birthday. Many will tell you what it tastes like but all have said they enjoyed it.

Score: 8.1
