Whisky Tasting March 2014

The March meeting of the QMWS was held at Tank bar and dining. Members and guests thoughts included;

Starward no age (43%abv) – Australia

The nose had caramel and sweet spice. There was a suggestion that this was a more recent bottling as the tropical fruits and banana seemed less prevalent than previous encounters. The palate was savory with all spice and a few fruity esters contributed in the middle. The lack of length gave an indication of its relative youth. Like a child with great potential we look forward to witnessing this whisky grow and blossom.

Score: 6.0

Sazerac Rye no age (43%abv) – America

Sugar rather than caramel on the nose with an orange blossom and delicate cherry finish. Quite volatile, some found it over powering while others found the after effects enjoyable, although without spending too much time nosing. The strong nose and finish are the beginnings of a very good cocktail…

Score: 6.4

 Edradour 10 y.o. (40%abv)

Another unusual whisky to round off the night made in Scotland’s smallest stills, any smaller and they’d be considered illegal. A sweet malty nose with vanilla, green herbs and bowling lawns lead a palate of cooking spices and oak. With an astringent slightly salty finish. An intriguing whisky with a village feel that keeps drawing you back to have another (and another).

Score: 7.3

Cheers everyone and see you Wednesday.
