QMWS Grand Central Sept. 2017 AGM

As well as tasting some great whiskies from around the world, at our July meeting we also took on new members and held our AGM.

Elections

The first point on the agenda was the election of committee positions. While everyone seemed pretty happy with the way things have been going, we wanted to spread the roles out to get more members involved.

Our new executive committee for 2017/2018 is;

  • Chieftain & Scribe – Nath Martyn
  • Guager – Lee Medling
  • Exciseman – Rick Denis
  • Bard – Joel Honig

Donations

As one of our members had just donated a bottle of whisky they’d picked up from a distillery while on holiday in Tasmania, which will show up in a tasting in the near future, it was a good opportunity to discuss donations and club purchases.

Obviously we’ll happily take donations, and I’m sure all members will be thankful. Under the right circumstances though, and with prior arrangement, we’d like to encourage members to help us expand our selection when they have the opportunity to obtain cellar door selections, rare, hard to come by and heavily discounted whiskies.

Our guidelines for such purchases are as follows;

  • Bottles need to be at least 700ml
  • Must be a malt whisky
  • Under $110 (guide price – contact us if there’s something that might be worthwhile)
  • The whisky must be in the high 80s or 90s in the Jim Murray Whisky Bible (or from a distillery that frequently makes such quality whiskies)

With all of that covered the meeting closed and we dove into our July tasting.

Meeting Closed

There are some membership positions still available, so if you’d like to join either come along to our next tasting, or send an email for maltsociety@gmail.com for more information.
